Objectives :

  • initiating mountain guides to glacier crossing
  • teach the basics of mountaineering techniques to future mountain guides
  • acquire the necessary safety reflexes in alpine and glacial terrains
  • climb an easy summit in snow
  • become aware of climate change and the role of glaciers

 

Activities :

  • discovery and use of technical equipment on glaciers (crampons, ice ax, rope, harness…)
  • roping and progression on glacier
  • notions of crevasse rescue
  • basics of glaciology and landscape reading
  • climate change mechanisms and impact on glaciers
  • review of trek organizing and working with pack animals
  • orienteering
